About Mike

I'm Mike, a Sydney-born father of one. I've spent most of my working life in technology, and most of my reading life somewhere else entirely.

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on. It started with Hans Christian Andersen, The Wind in the Willows, Narnia and every Roald Dahl book there was, took a long detour through a tall stack of Goosebumps, and ended up in the big fantasy worlds: Raymond E. Feist's Magician, then Tolkien, David Eddings, Robin Hobb, Robert Jordan, David Gemmell, Christopher Paolini and, later, Brandon Sanderson. Somewhere in all those pages I decided I wanted a world of my own to build. For a long time that stayed a someday idea.

Then my daughter started to discover reading for herself, and someday ran out. The bedtime story I told her, about a girl called Ellie, grew a village, a tree and a mystery, until it was too big for bedtime and had to become a book.

Sometimes you have to take the risk, put the words down on the page and see where they lead.
